Meet The Face Behind Mark Birnbaum Productions

I’m Mark Birnbaum, owner of Mark Birnbaum Productions. I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

After making my first films as a cameraman in the US Army, in Vietnam and New York City, and six years as a filmmaker at a couple of public television stations, I started my own practice with the goal of creating independent documentary films for broadcast, theatrical, and eventually online release.

I have been a filmmaker since 1968 when we made films on actual film. How does a Sony mirrorless digital camera compare to a 16mm Arriflex film camera, you ask? Well, digital changed everything, except that it’s still all about storytelling, which is what I love to do.

My business philosophy is to offer the best production value to my clients that I can, for a budget they can afford, and create a story that frames their goals and dreams in a compelling and truthful manner.

The values I hold most dear are integrity, compassion, fairness, and humor.

I attribute my success to the fact I have always found creative solutions to everyday problems. Listening carefully has also helped me succeed.

All in all, my career in film production has given me immense satisfaction over the years.

When I am not at work, my hobby is still photography. I shoot landscapes, portraits, color, black and white, and lots and lots of pictures of my cats. And I love cooking.

I also believe in giving back to society, and as part of that belief, I am committed to preserving and restoring the architectural fabric of our environment. Those things we have built reveal so much about who we are and what we value. They deserve to be identified and protected. Much of my film work in recent years has been devoted to this theme.
